Crushing your New Years Resolutions

Did you make New Year’s Resolutions this year?  How are they going?    Have you already stopped going to the gym?   Stopped eating healthy?   Stopped organizing?
Let’s get you back on track.
New Year’s Resolutions can start anytime.  So, dust yourself off and resolve to start fresh today.  Here’s how:
  1. Choose a Specific Goal. – Now is the time to identify what you want to stop doing and what you want to start doing.   What is going well for you in your home or life and what isn’t so much.   Make a list a few things that might improve your life and space.
  2. Limit Your Resolutions. – Let’s not go overboard.  This is a common mistake that people make in January.  You’ve heard of “New year, new me”.  Well, I like the old you.  You are great.   You just need a few tweaks.   Don’t bite off more than you can chew or you are destined for failure.
  3. Put Time Into Planning. – You might want to start with a time audit of your calendar form last year.  How did you spend your time?  Where was your free time?   Where can you fit in a new habit or two?   You have to plan for success.
  4. Start With Small Steps. – Make a plan with yourself.   Set your workout clothes out the night before.   Do a 5 minute tidy (not a whole declutter of the basement).  Small steps add up to big results.
  5. Avoid Repeating Past Failures.  – If something didn’t work in the past, it’s ok.   Move on.  Try something different.    You’re not a failure just because that resolution or goal didn’t work out.   Challenge yourself to look at it through a new lens and try something new.
  6. Remember That Change Is a Process. – You won’t get there in a day.   Just as I said before, small steps are what are going to add up to big results.
  7. Get Support. – You should work with accountability buddies or professionals who can help you with your goals.   Trying to lose weight?  Get w trainer.   Trying to whip your house into shape?  Hire a professional organizer.   Sometimes it takes two – for motivation and results.
  8. Renew Your Motivation. – January doesn’t have to be the only month you try new goals.   You can renew your motivation every moth.   Set mini goals for yourself every month that will add up to a bigger goal.  And if you get discouraged, there is always tomorrow.

One final thought – you might want to track your goals in a journal or a habit trackers.   Habit trackers are a great way to see a month at time and see what you’ve actually accomplished.  They are great motivation.   And you can download free ones off the internet for your use.

I hope this has been motivating for you.   Goals and resolutions are amazing ways to set yourself up for successful change in the New Year (or anytime) but you have to it in a way that serves you and supports you in being effective.
